Harris
Schiff has been curator/webmaster of $lavery
- Cyberzine of the Arts since it's inception in 1995. His commentary poem
for 9/11/01 was published by The
Arts Paper. Harris was, for a time, a resident of Morningstar Commune in
Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico. A prose poem about some of that experience was recently
republished as part of the The Angel Hair Anthology, (Anne Waldman
& Lewis Warsh, eds., 619 pp. Granary Books, 2001). Phyllis
Wat's review included the following:
"I'm crazy about Harris Schiff's drugs and travel poem, "I Should
Run for Cover but I'm Right Here," which is exactly where it was at. He's
in New Mexico searching for enlightenment via travel and drugs, and it's very
funny, though not to him. He's inside the context, we're outside it, and this
is not a match."
A former East Village resident, Harris was associated with The St. Mark's Poetry
Project during the 60's, 70's and 80's. His books include In (The Heart
of the Empire and Yo-Yo's With Money (with Ted Berrigan) both
from United Artists, 1979).
