      FAST FOOD CRACK

fast food crack, instant freebase, kerosene
      bob said his analysis showed
one part cocaine, one part synthetic heroin (unwashed and
      therefore toxic)
one part pcp, one part procaine, one part
      kerosene
for that explosion in the brain
      the brother said
      high on TV

      "chemical warfare against the masses"

neuro toxins in a gas-like vapor

all the pleasure centers in the brain

      saying goodbye at once

      every good memory experienced

      for one last time

      to seek forever

DENNY'S

When there's nowhere else to go
Staring into night on the highway
A yellow incandescent name in red
Someone you'd never know, but a place to go,
Brown formica for the elbows, a big menu to hide behind
A hot chocolate machine or the floating coffee Pyrex to stare at
Busy uniforms dealing with urgent local hunger and thirst
And some guy who belongs nowhere steady on the stool,
For where the traffic stops and the trucks bellow
Outside prefab plastic picture window gas station fluorescence
White light and glass reflecting inside and out
Random appetites gathered in the night.

Berkeley Three --- Ibis

Stayed late.    Was late.    There was a prize,    a prize for the man who
toiled late into the night.
The lamp throwing light on his down turned head.
Working at his table "it's like a prayer" he thought
"supplication to a god, an intelligence, a spirit --- something."
He heard the night. The wind a heavy moan,
as if high in the air,     the buffeting of force against space,
against   concrete pillars.

"Let truth show itself and good come to me."

The Ibis indicates that eternal vigilance is necessary   if physical
limitations are to be surmounted.
